India has a large number of R&D institutions on fisheries. These institutions have expertise, resources and knowledge products on fisheries including tuna fisheries. In order to identify the objectives, features and strengths of these institutions, and explore the potential support from these institutions, an institutional mapping workshop was conducted in Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi on April 22, 2016.
The workshop was attended by 22 participants from 8 institutions in addition to an independent expert; and 5 staff of OPP-Bay of Bengal. The workshop revealed that excellent knowledge and expertise are available on different subsets related to tuna fisheries such as sustainable management, fishing and postharvest technology, marketing, socioeconomics, exports, etc. It has also given the lead to engage potential expertise on the thematic areas of the OPP-BOB.
