The FAO/BOBP-IGO team met with Mr. Dhammika Ranatunga, Additional Secretary (Fisheries Resource Management), Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources, and Ocean Resources, Sri Lanka, and Mr. S.J. Kahawatte, Director General, DFAR, to debrief on the outcomes from the just-concluded FMInv workshop and discuss the next steps to be taken. Both officials appreciated the efforts taken by BOBP-IGO and FAO.

 

The team also visited the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) unit in the Ministry and interacted with the officials there. The delegation included Dr. Nicolas Gutierrez, Senior Fishery Officer, FAO; Dr. E. Vivekanandan, Senior Scientific Consultant; and Dr. T. Velumani, Project Scientist, BOBP-IGO.
