Malé Fish Market is located along the beach front to the west of the Republic Square in Malé city, the capital of Maldives. This area is the main trading center of the city, crowded with shops and stalls selling fish and other local products. The fish harbor lies opposite to the market and gives a good view of returning fishing vessels (locally known as Dhoani) with their daily catch. The catch from these vessels is directly brought into the market, without any intermediaries. Each day, towards afternoon, fishing boats start coming into the harbor and the pace increases by mid-afternoon as more boats return with the catch.
What fishes can you buy from here: The main species can be purchased from the market are the Tunas, Trevallies, Bigeye scad, Mackerel scad, Grouper, Rainbow runner, Sail fish Swordfish, Wahoo, common dolphinfish, squirrelfish, Snappers, Emperors, Breams.
