The Bay of Bengal Programme examines the contribution of fisheries and aquaculture in the Gross Value Added estimates (GVA for 2017-18 at 2011-12 prices) of the total animal food production sector comprising egg, fish, meat, and milk. The contributions of North-Eastern and The Eastern States and the two Island Territories stand out prominently. The traditionally high fish producing Maritime States like Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka relatively contribute less from fisheries and aquaculture to GVA.
